Repair, refinish, or replace?

Localized damage on a floor with wear layer left is a repair; widespread wear is a refinish; damage deeper than sanding can reach is replacement.

Most floors we are called to look at need a combination: a handful of boards replaced, then the room refinished so everything reaches the same colour and sheen.

A repair that is not blended stays visible, because new wood has not aged the way the surrounding floor has. That is why the honest comparison is repair plus refinishing against refinishing alone.

Find the cause before fixing the symptom

Boards damaged by water, a leaking appliance or a humid crawlspace will be damaged again if the source is still there.

We look for the cause before quoting. Replacing boards under a dishwasher that is still leaking is work that gets done twice, and the second time is at the homeowner's expense.

What makes a repair invisible

Weaving replacement boards into the surrounding pattern, rather than cutting out a rectangle and patching it.

A square patch reads as a patch forever, no matter how well it is finished. Staggering the joints so they fall in the same random pattern as the rest of the floor is what makes a repair disappear.
