The VGJ Floors Blog

Wood floor guidance written from the work, for New Jersey houses.

Red oak strip floor in an empty room, natural finish, light coming from two windows

Every figure here cites its source, and several of these articles conclude that you should not buy the service they describe.

How we write

This is a contractor's blog, not a content farm. Every article here goes through the same standard before it is published.

Written from the work

These articles come from floors we have actually sanded in New Jersey houses. Where we have not done something, we do not write about it as though we had.

Real numbers, cited

Moisture tolerances cite NWFA guidelines. Test methods cite the ASTM standard by number. Housing figures cite the US Census, with the approximation stated. If a figure has no source, it does not go in.

Updated, not republished

When a standard is revised or a figure changes, we update the existing article and say so. We do not republish the same content under a new headline.

Information gain

Each article has to add something the rest of the internet does not already have. If a topic already has fifty generic guides, we either bring data, a decision rule or a code citation — or we do not publish.

We say when not to hire us

Several articles here end with the conclusion that the reader should not buy the service. That is the point. A homeowner who refinishes a floor that cannot take it becomes an unhappy customer, and we would rather lose the job than the reputation.

Ask it. If the answer is useful to other people, it becomes an article.
